Role Purpose

  • Assist and participate in the delivery of a range of high quality, efficient; customer focussed operational services in line with RBG strategic ambitions and customer focussed services at Greenwich Public Mortuary (GPM).

Responsibilities
  • To act in accordance with the Human Tissue Act 2004, any subsequent updates and all other relevant legislation, guiding principles and codes of practice as directed. These services include but are not limited to: maintaining sterile and hygienic conditions throughout the building including the cleaning all associated tools and equipment. Post mortems, stock control, maintaining records and implementing visual inspection of plant and equipment before use to ensure compliance to health and safety to assist with the delivery and management of the service.
  • Undertake duties relating to the reception, identification, storage and release of bodies, maintaining a register and ensuring that particular attention is paid to the security and return of valuables, and the conduct of persons visiting the Mortuary for the purpose of depositing or collecting bodies. Deal with members of the public in a sympathetic and caring nature when discussing all issues relating to the service.
  • To advise, liaise and co-operate with officers of other departments / directorates, local or public authorities, police, coroner’s officers, pathologists, ambulance personnel, undertakers and all other individuals associated with the GPM.
  • To bring to the attention of the Mortuary Manager and other colleagues any minor or emergency repairs needing attention / repair and take necessary action to prevent injury to others or oneself. To make arrangements with RBG colleagues and contractors to provide safe access to the building for maintenance work when required.
  • To bring to the attention of work colleagues any bodies which need to be attended to by other RBG colleagues or external organisations for disposal.

Requirements
  • RSPH Level 3 Diploma Anatomical Pathology Technology (or significant experience post level 3 qualification in an autopsy active Hospital/public mortuary) or pre 2015 certificate and diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology.
  • Individuals should be motivated, be able to maintain confidentiality, have excellent communication/interpersonal skills, be well organised, be able to present to clinical staff and be able to accommodate the needs of a highly skilled team, remain professional and respectful of others at all times.
