Estates Surveyor (Disposals) – South West England
6 months ongoing contract 
Mon to Fri 9am to 6pm (Hybrid)

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Estates Surveyor to join a Local Authority on a contract basis, supporting the delivery of a large and diverse property portfolio.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in managing property disposals and transfers, contributing to long-term estate strategy and capital receipt targets.

Role Overview:

As part of the Estates Strategy & Development team, you will be responsible for managing a varied caseload of estate disposals and transfers from initial appraisal through to completion. You will work across a broad portfolio, ensuring assets are managed effectively and aligned with the council’s strategic objectives.

Key Details:

  • Location: South West England (2 days office-based)
  • Contract: Ongoing
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid (site visits required)
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver property transfer and disposal programmes in line with Section 123 of the Local Government Act 1972
  • Manage end-to-end disposal of surplus and non-operational assets
  • Undertake property appraisals, feasibility studies, and options analysis
  • Develop business cases aligned with financial and strategic objectives
  • Instruct and manage agents, legal teams, and external stakeholders
  • Negotiate heads of terms for sales, leases, and transfers
  • Contribute to asset management strategies and portfolio reviews
  • Ensure compliance with council policies and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct site visits across a range of assets, including rural locations
Requirements:
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • Proven experience in estate management, particularly disposals and asset transfers
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and work at pace
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel to sites
Desirable:
  • MRICS or Associate status
  • Recent Local Authority experience
